SUMMARY OF CONVENTION BUSINESS

On the whole, Convention went well. The opening Eucharist was fabulous, the gala was a lot of fun, and the business session Saturday had enough debate to keep things lively. In the end the Convention voted to
 
  • approve a change in the Canons regarding delegates from measuring "Confirmed Communicants" to "communicants in good standing."  
  • We approved a Resolution supporting Beckwith.  
  • We approved, unanimously, a Resolution supporting our brothers and sisters in Sudan.  
  • We approved, after much debate, a Resolution condemning capital punishment.  
  • And we approved, after even more debate and against the suggestion of the resolutions committee, a resolution from Bishop Duncan calling on General Convention to take seriously the work of structural reform.  
  • We approved a $1.2m budget, but struck down an amendment calling to raise the communications director position from $20k to $40k.
